In the field of customizing hand control instrument accessories, transparent components require extremely strict requirements for both material and processing accuracy. Recently, we completed an order for CNC precision processing of an acrylic handheld shell.
The raw material selected is high-transparency PMMA acrylic sheet, with a transparency rate of over 92%, without any impurities or bubbles, which meets the light transmission requirements for the internal indicator lights in the equipment. The product is an irregular handle structure. The head is reserved with multiple groups of holes of different sizes for installation and positioning, and the handle is designed with fine teeth patterns for anti-slip function. The tail is arc-shaped to fit the ergonomic design of the palm, and the shape is complex and cannot be molded by injection. Therefore, the preferred method is five-axis CNC integrated milling for forming.
The processing difficulties mainly lie in the thin-walled and curved surface transition: acrylic has high brittleness, and cutting is prone to chipping. During processing, the tool speed is optimized, and layer-by-layer slow feed milling is adopted. After rough milling, multiple manual polishing processes are carried out, and the inner wall and outer surface are mirror-like transparent, with the removal of knife marks and foggy flaws, achieving a fully transparent visual effect for the entire machine.
From disassembling the drawings, sample production to batch processing, relying on three-axis + five-axis equipment, we can undertake various non-standard transparent plastic and acrylic irregular component customization, and support modification of the structure based on the provided drawings and samples. Currently, this handle has been delivered in batches to the customer, and is used for the shell of portable detection instruments.
